TYPE Y SWORD
Type Y swords, characteristic of the 10th and 11th century, but whose pommel shape lasted until the 13th century, are very widespread.
We know of them in Birka, in the Viking world, but also in continental Europe (Poland - Szczecin, Germany, etc.)
Some copies from the 13th century: Brunau, Zurich, Hungary, Copenhagen, iconographic representation in the Goslar manuscript (1230)...
Type Y swords constitute a transaction between the swords of the early Middle Ages, and the swords of the central Middle Ages. The pommel becomes larger and larger, and curved, in order to facilitate the movement of the hand.
