Battle Caftans

Padded for battle
Rus Svita / Byzantines Hypokhamision

Rus Svitas, and Byzantine Hypokhamisions, are tunics, with a long slit, running from the collar to the mid-chest, closed by buttons. Simple, or richly decorated, the central opening which starts from the collar and finishes in the middle of the bust guarantees a certain comfort when putting on the garment.

Technical features:
We have specialized for several years in making padded garments that closely imitate early medieval civilian clothing, but provide sufficient protection for modern medieval combat practice!
Indeed, the use of metal armor was the prerogative of the highest elites! The iconography, the traumatological analyzes carried out on the skelettons by the archaeologists, as well as the textual mentions prove the predominance of light clothing during the battles, for the mast majority of the soldiers.
It is also a definite advantage for the re-enactor, the weight of a padded garment approaching 2 kgs, against 10 to 15 kgs for a metal armour!
Our combat clothes have three layers of felt (1.5-2cm thick) at the shoulders, upper chest, upper arms, and for most models, on the upper back as well. A layer of felt protects the rest of the body. The linen lining guarantees comfort and thermoregulation. Our combat clothes are mostly reinforced with wool bias on the edges, sewn with waxed linen thread for maximum resistance over the years.
Of course, all visible seams are made by hand, to guarantee historicity.

Prices starts from 200 euros.
