TYPE L SWORD
L-type swords are typical of England at the end of the early Middle Ages. They are widely exported, in the Carolingian territory, and beyond, in Scandinavia. Several artifacts are known in France, and Sweden, as example.
These swords are recognizable from all of them, thanks to their shell-shaped pommel, and their often very curved guard.
The pommel of this replica comes from Loire-Atlantique, France, and is said to be dated to the end of the 9th, or 10th century. The guard, strongly cuved, is from a find from the early 1900's, Dumfries, in modern UK.
