Historical informations
Splendid coin from the Merovingian period, imitation of the contemporary coins then in use in Byzantium in the name of Anastasius.
The identity of the helmeted character, probably a Merovingian sovereign, or an important military leader, remains uncertain.
On the back, a representation of "victory" holding a cross, symbol of the importance of Christianity in the early days of Merovingian royalty.
