Historical informations

The tremissis, called 1/3 solidus, was struck by a Merovingian mintmaster on the model of Emperor Justinian I (reigned: 527-565).
The front shows a very abstract head facing right. The words BODANO FIT (German: made in Bodano) can be read throughout.
The reverse of the coin features a simplified representation of an eight-pointed star. The writing SVABTVLFVS MO(netarius) revolves around this. This identifies a man named Suabtulfus as the mint director or coiner of the coin.
