Historical informations

This is a denarius of William Longsword (927/932-942), Count of Rouen and son of Rollo (911-927/932), which was struck in Rouen. It was apparently found in the "Fécamp treasure", discovered in 1963. This treasure had been buried around 985 in Fécamp, near the ducal palace founded by this same William and then inhabited by his descendants until William the Conqueror.
For the moment, only 6 copies of this coin have been referenced by the Museum of Antiquities of Rouen. The one in the photo has been part of the collections of this museum (inventory number: 83.2.) since 1983.
