Handmade rawhide . The price is for 3 meters!
---
Thickness about 1.5-2mm, width of stripes 4,5-5cm (may vary slightly depending on animal, and craft cut, from batch to batch.)
Perfect to protect your shield for medieval battles.
Very strong when dry, the rawhide becomes soft when soaked in water, allowing it to be placed around the edges of the shield and then sewn or nailed.
Used by historical re-enactors. Rawhide was actually used throughout the Middle Ages to reinforce shields.
---
The 3 meter pack is usually made up of 2 strips, maximum 3. Colour may vary from beige to brown, it's a natural product.
---
For an ordinary Viking circular shield, the diameter is 85 cm. This requires approximately 275 cm of rawhide. This is why we offer 3 meter packs.
---
You can order an additional 50g of forged nails, 7mm length, or 10 meters of waxed linen thread, to nail or sew your rawhide onto your shield.
Our nails are forged and blued for a handcrafted and vintage look. Our waxed linen thread is of superior quality, thickness 0.7mm. The thread does not fray.
